Businessman Rogelio Nores, who was a close friend of Liam Payne, faced charges of involuntary manslaughter. It was argued that he abandoned him at the moment of his death after having stayed by his side during his time in Argentina. Nores stated that Liam "was just his friend and had no legal duty or obligation to ensure his safety."

In statements, lawyer Rafael Cuneo Libarona argued that Nores was not responsible for Liam Payne's death, as he was with him until 40 minutes before the tragic incident in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Authorities revealed that Liam Payne passed away at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel.

After being acquitted of the charges, Nores expressed his relief and stated: "I am happy to travel to the United Kingdom and say goodbye to my friend." However, other defendants remain detained for selling drugs to the former One Direction member. Autopsy results indicated that the singer had consumed illicit substances and alcohol prior to the fatal incident.

An investigation pointed to five possible individuals involved in Liam Payne's death. Two were arrested for supplying drugs, two others for their alleged work in the hotel, and Rogelio Nores was charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly abandoning Liam.

On Wednesday, February 19, the appeals court determined that neither Rogelio Nores nor the hotel staff were guilty, thus overturning the charges against them.
